Custom made pre workout blend

As some may know, I am a bargain hunter. I was tired of paying out the ass for pre workout powders, so I poked around online and found a place where I could buy the key ingredients. I was also tired of the super nasty fake sweet taste and the artificial flavoring (raspberry blast... give me a fucking break. Stuff taste like straight chemicals!) I though my blend of ingredient would be bitter as hell, instead it tastes kind of like vitamin C (I added no Vitamin C, ascorbic acid etc.).

I mixed up the ingredients such as to make fifteen [roughly] 12 gram servings. I gave it a test today, and trained arms as I figured in doing so, a pump would be more than evident if the blend worked. It worked really well actually even though I had my doubts. The pump remained in tact throughout the training session, and for roughly an hour or so after (this may be due to a higher amount of L-Norvaline then most brands, not by much though). I will admit that there may be placebo effect at play, I mean, I made the stuff so it must work waaaayyyy better  (LOL); though maybe not. So, I may give some samples to some folks at the gym to see what they think. Here is the recipe. Amount of each is per serving:

Citruline malate 2:1             4 grams

Betaine Anhydrous              2 grams

Beta Alanine                        2.25 grams

L-Norvaline                          175 mg

Caffeine                               200 mg

Agmatine                             7.5g

Creatine.                              5g

Potassium citrate              1g

I'be added potassium to the mix as I heard recently that potassium  increased pumps, and boy does it! I added agmatine for the same reason. With the addition of these plus the creatine, I believe I've hit the nail on the head with this recipe. Energy and endurance has also increased since these additions. Originally, I had added glucose, but the mixture became funky and caked up even with silica packets. It was rem from the formula.

looks good blast, my bro chemist! LOL

Why dont you split the 4g of citruline into 2g cit and 2g l-arg ? i seem to like both arg & citr

how do you add glucose 1g? i mean do you use straight out sugar?

You know, I was thinking the same thing about half citruline and half L-arginine [ketogluturate]. I Saw another formula that contains arginine polyglutarate too, I'll see what bulksupps has and get some. I messing with different formulas to see what has the best kick. I do like like that tingly skin thing that the beta alanine gives, may add a tad more of that, maybe up it to 3g from 2.75g. As far as the glucose (dextrose), I bought a ten pound bag of it, as table sugar is a disaccharide made of glucose and fructose. I wanted to get rid of the fructose, so I bought dextrose. It's pretty inexpensive to purchase, seems wine a beer makers use it grow yeasts or something. Anyhow, I've nearly knocked sucrose out the diet entirely (I do share a bit of ice cream or chocolate with my daughter from time to time, can't resist)

Oh, I didn't need the super exact scale after all. Once I added all of the milligrams, my cheap old digital scale worked fine; only needed to go to the tenths (0.1) position (hopefully the LSD I added isn't too strong for those not familiar with its effects. It is measured in milligrams and not micrograms....I think. Just kidding! ...maybe ;)

i like this forumla, it adds more to the mix than mine, so i might give it a shot soon. If you like the tingly skin feeling take a good dose of Niacin (flush) and you'll get that feeling like spiders are crawling on your face lol TINGLY.

btw, ketogluturate form was highly recommended to me by a pharmacist friend of mine, but i never researched as to why its the best form. But he spoke of it HIGHLY, and pointed me to OLYMPIAN labs products since they sell many of the substances in that form individually. I would take his recommendation for Ketogluterate as good, but as far as the brand olympian, i would look for a better brand out there selling the same formula.

Like a good mix you have there. I too dislike the chemical taste some of the pre-workouts have. It used to be a complete waste of money because i would order online and couldn't return it. Then i switched to purchasing from Vitamin shoppe and if i dislike, i can return or exchange.

It's awesome that you have created your own!!! Thank you for sharing your recipe!!!! ;-)

i used to take straight AAKG back about 10 or so years ago. I did notice that my body seemed to become tolerant after awhile. Not sure how, but the effects diminished over time.  I remember that stuff worked a little like viagra ;)

Niacin is good stuff for that skin sensation that's for sure. May add it later. One of my intentions is to keep it simple but it appears that I may want to add a couple things such as pine bark. I'll wait on that though.

Thanks Sam for the suggestions appreciate it :)

You bet doll! I once or twice bought some stuff on the sale shelf at a local supp store and that stuff tasted like crap! Too fake sweet, with that nasty fake fruit taste, plus when mixed, it looked like nuclear waste! Si it was a sale item no returns. So it got tossed. I already pump risky stuff into my body, so best to limit other risky shit coming into the system lol! Plus its Fun putting something together and feeling it work. Satisfaction in creation :)

Blast..this is awesome! I am going to try! I love the tingle too but the taste of this stuff out there is NASTY! Plus all the other crap they toss in there; never know what you are consuming. Wonder if things like Coconut Sugar or something like that may enhance the flavor of this?? Curious!!!

I've had a pre workout drink sweetened with coconut sugar, pretty tasty actually. Dumbasses still put that shit in it that I cannot for the life of me pronounce! Ass esufame? Who needs it?!

I love coconut sugar; only sugar in my house. And agreed, it I cannot pronounce the name of the "crap" they put in there then why would I want to put it in my body. I think "ASSpertain" (intentional miss spelling)  meaning, cancer causing, liver failing, really bad crap for you in my terms.

Cool concoction Blast.  I have recently decided to do my own preworkout as well.  Its so much cheaper.  I planning to use beta alanine, citruilline malate, karbolyn, creatine, bcaa, taurine, and caffeine.  Still playing with doses, but looking forward to trying it.

To get the dosages for each, I looked at brands that i had good results with. Their amounts by and large pretty much the same for the most part. If dosages were different, i just averaged them (add and divide). From there, I would round up or down by a 10th mostly for ease of weighing. I pop a caffeine capsule instead of mixing it in. Make sure you a couple of silicon dioxide packets so it doesn't cake up. What does Karbolyn do? I take my BCAA separately during training, just a preference pretty much. Where do you source your ingredients? I get mine from bulk supplements.

Ill get most from bulk supplements as well.  EFX makes the Karbolyn Ill use.  Karbolyn is a carb source that advertises both fast acting and complex carbs for performance.  I train in the am after breakfast so its a good time for extra carbs.  Havent used it much, but have heard good things about it.  I use to do bcaa while I trained, but have lately taken it mixed with my pre.  Theres arguments on both sides on whats the better method.

I typically empty my caffeine caps into the drink.  I use Nutricost off amazon.  Pretty cheap.  I use ON creatine at the moment.

Cool thing about bulksupps is that they keep sending me free stuff when i post a review. Damn near got the ingredients for my preworkout or free! I buy my whey isolate in 5 kilo batches, bcaa, and glutamine from them  Way cheaper than getting the stuff from a store that's for damn sure. I was paying $80 for 4 lbs of protein powder, now $120 for 11 lbs.

Sensei,

Look at UCAN Super Starch also for carbs but it is slightly more expensive than Karbolyn per serving. It is becoming very popular with endurance athletes.

Thanks SF.  That stuff looks pretty good as well.  When I finish my tub of Karbolyn I may give it a shot.  Not too much more expensive, not enough to make a difference anyway.

Ha!  Thats kick ass.  Ive never bought anything from them before, so Ill make sure and leave a review.  Only thing I dont like about Bulk is they source their ingredients from China...so always a bit apprehensive, but hard to find non china stuff anymore.

Never tried thwor protein, been eating ON naturally flavored for awhile now.

From 3 months till now I decided to make my own pre workout mix, so what I did was to purchase beta alanine, caffeine, arginine, yohimbine and bcaas, each one of them individually to have a product more concentrated than the pre-made branded ones and it had all the necessary compounds to me
