Liothyronine 50 mcg tablet is a prescription medication used to treat the symptoms of hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone), nontoxic goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), myxedema, and myxedema coma. Liothyronine Cytomel can be taken alone or in combination with other drugs.
Thyroid underactivity is treated with Liothyronine 50 mcg (Cytomel) (hypothyroidism). It replaces or increases the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland. Liothyronine sodium 50 mcg (Cytomel) is a thyroid hormone that has been synthesized by humans. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur spontaneously or as a result of radiation/medications or surgery to remove the thyroid gland. You can stay healthy if you have enough thyroid hormone.
Liothyronine 50 mcg (Cytomel) is usually started at a dose of 5 to 25 mcg per day to treat hypothyroidism. The dose is then modified based on the patient’s response and thyroid hormone levels in the blood.
