Free testosterone

Since someone asked this, well more than a few did, here is a small write up to the point.. If you want a more in depth write up, well just ask..

Free testosterone is also known as circulating testosterone. free testosterone is the only testosterone that really counts, since it is the testosterone ready and able to actually "work" on your tissues. The reason is that about two thirds of non-free, or bound testosterone is actually chemically bonded to a protein called Sex Hormone-Binding Globulin (SHBG) and about 1/3 to a protein called albumin. Therefore, free testosterone is actually free to supercharge our brains, blood, muscles, sex lives and all the other things we associate with testosterone.

Albumin is a transport of hydrophobic molecules not actually a "binder" in the sense of SHBG nor does it inactivate testosterone. Since testosterone is lipid soluble albumin acts as a transport. Testosterone bonded to albumin is considered weakly bound and disassociates readily in the capillary bed thus readily available for uptake in tissues. Once disassociated from albumin, just as any other hydrophobic molecule is, then the testosterone is active and available to do those things you listed.
