I recently read that the average bench press of a Western male was 130lbs. Out of curiosity just now like 2 minutes ago. I warmed up with 135 to a tune of 36 reps. That's ridiculous 🤣.

That’s pretty sad. Lucky we don’t have to build our own shelter or hunt our own food anymore .
But congrats to you for being 36 times greater than average. 🤣🤣
You hit the nail on the head. We have become a weak race.

I am not sure the max benchpress really says much about a persons overall ability to work. I work in a shipyard, and I am sure most guys are average, but we manage to repair the carriers and get them back out to the fleet. Granted, those of us on here are WAAAY above average, and our strength is useful in specific situations, but the majority of the time it’s not. We use our big brain to design machines that allow us to lift and move unthinkable amounts of weight. I can tell you that I still have a hurt back from carrying 5 ft long 12x12 in 1999 when I was a diesel mechanic, I “knew” I could do it. While all the other guys were helping each other carry them I grabbed my own and on about the third one POW and now 20plus years later, it’s still fucked. We use our brains more than anything else.

Actually, it concerns me more that we do not have claws and meat tearing canines, without those two things, we are lucky as a species to have survived this long😳

Yeah we just went through an audit few months ago. Checking paper work, welding leads, extension cords, electrical boxes, ect.

130lb is still plenty heavy for me 🤣🤣😭😭.
Its actually a weight I use quite often. It's my 2nd set of 10, on my way to 175lb.
Usually when I bench I do
100 x10
130x10
175x10
175x10
Then I drop to 100 and do either a set of 20, or 2 sets of 15 depending on how I'm feeling.

I’m a Fitter and Machinist by trade but have worked as a Commercial Diver for the last 23 years .
I’m all for safety but the Occupational Health and Safety laws cater for the below average human.
We had a guy, despite being trained and told several times not to walk down the gunwales of our 12 m vessel while alongside a 200 m ship at sea, do so.
He got crushed as per the risks outlined in the pre start.
After 3 months he was cleared to return to work but is now claiming PTSD and can never work again.
The sad thing is he will get paid out.

I work at a manufacturing plant, I'm confined space certified (among other things) by OSHA... I really can't stand them. Every year they add the dumbest shit. It only slows us down and costs us money. 90% of it is common sense, the other 10% is just ways for them to fine you and get your money
