Steroid Use and Polyphasic Sleeping Schedule?

Helo fellow MGers ive been pondering this for a little bit, and couldn't find any scientific studies or documents on it, and was wondering what you guys think about it. For those of you that don't know what polyphasic sleeping is it sleeping for only 2 hours out of the day giving you more hours of activity. I read an article that if you live to be 75 you sleep for about 23 years of your life. To me that's a scary statistic. We are only given one life and I want to live it up the most I can. The sleep schedule I'm going to try and follow is called the Dymaxion Sleep schedule and that is comprised of 4 30 minute naps spaces throughout the day every 5.5 hours. But what mystifies me is if you were to run a cycle of steroids would your body still grow granted you could eat more in a day, for nutrients and protein but only be sleeping for 4 30 minute periods a day. It seems counterproductive but people that have successfully tried and coverted to this sleeping schedule say they are well rested to go on with there day. So even though its not the normal 8 hours of sleep needed to let your body recover is it possible to grow on a cycle sleeping like this if people claim to feel better rested than they do when they sleep 8 hours? Or would you think this is a sleeping schedule for mostly mental health and acuity? Just trying to gather some insight and hear how others feel about this topic!

Good question bro!! Although sleep takes a lot of our time, well our Creator makes us that way with a purpose in mind. Sleep allows for our muscles to grow & our organs to also rest. My opinion is growth needs rest bro & its more beneficial with sleep! Maybe I'm just old fashioned:)

See I also believe that our body needs the rest, I just wanted to see if we could spark up a debate, since using anabolic repairs muscles fast than normal almost at twice the rate of a natural so wouldn't that mean you'd only need about 4 hours of sleep;) haha just some food for thought, but I am really with you on the rest I was just being a jake with the above statement Just scary when you look at the end picture of almost a quarter of your life in bed it's a scary thought

Very interesting concept. I have suffered from insomnia since 2007 and lack of sleep for me is unbearable.  I can't begin to imagine what it be like to intentionally deprive myself of a good night's sleep.  Like brother Jarhead said, sleep is when the muscle grows...it gives the body the time needed to repair.  When we train, we are simply "planning" to build muscle at that point. Our consumption of necessary nutrients and rest allow for that potential growth to occur.

I'm sure some can cycle their sleep to have more waking hours, but at the end of the day, you haven't "lived" any additional years, just spent more time awake. ;-)   It's an interesting concept no doubt. Things that make you go hmm....

I've lived like  that for short stretches at a time in the military. It's fucking brutal! It would be like self inflicted sleep apnea.

Robbing yourself of sleep is robbing your body of growth. Many of the critical hormone responses can only take place in stage 3 sleep and you certainly will not attain that with "cat naps".

Studies have shown, and many conclude that it's not so much the muscles that need sleep, it's our brain. Without sleep you'll go insane pretty much. Life isn't just happening in our state of waking consciousness. Trees lose leaves, perennial plants die back only to come up the following year. Why does our body excrete melatonin, if not for the fact the body must sleep (this includes the brain, yes it is a physical structure, i believe we forget that all too often). Try staying up for 7 days with catnaps, probably won't be thinking straight ;)

My wife used to have terrible issues with sleep but has been 100% better since starting HRT.

I think pregnenolone is the hormone known for improving sleep. I've seen it online as an OTC, but not sure if it's the same stuff my wife gets. Also taking melatonin

Matter of fact, it's 6;50 and she's still sleeping

I feel ya bro.... its not a good thought knowing you've spent 1/4 of your life asleep!! I don't practice what I preach in that area as I generally get 4, sometimes 5 hours every night

Ha! Seinfeld did an episode referring to this.  Kramer napped 15 minutes every few hours or so.  It didnt work out in the show lol.

I've never actually met someone in real life who accomplished one of these sleep schedules. I've read about them in books and online. Saw the Seinfeld episide. Heard that a friend of a friend's brother in law's co worker did it for a year. But no actual real life proof of this exists in my life.

So until then, it's folklore.
